Education: A Pathway To Opportunity In Southern India

Education is universally recognized as the key to a better future for both individuals and the communities they live in. For the under-served populations we serve in southern India, education offers
a vital path out of poverty, helps address social inequalities, and empowers girls and women and boys and men by providing greater opportunities and control of their future.

Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally's Commitment to Education

Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally Charity is dedicated to improving educational outcomes for southern India’s under-served populations. We support students attending local elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools by providing scholarships and educational resources. In a typical academic year, an average of 70% of boys, girls, young men, and young women benefiting from this support are the first generation in their families to receive a formal education.  Our educational support enables students and their families to break free of the enduring cycles of poverty that still remain entrenched in South India.

Scholarships FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS

Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally Charity offers scholarships to needful students who face significant social and financial challenges. From kindergarten to Grade 12, our scholarships help students embark on their educational journey, giving them access to quality education at exceptional local schools. As these young learners gain new knowledge, they share it with their friends, families and communities. Sharing this
knowledge creates a ripple effect, generating long-lasting, positive change at the grassroots level throughout the underserved communities we support.

Educational Resources For Primary and Secondary Schools in South India

Schools are so much more than just buildings and chalkboards. With proper educational resources, local schools can greatly enhance learning outcomes. Canadians Sharing supports local schools by providing high-quality textbooks, overhead projectors, computers, software, and smart boards. These tools help students understand lessons better, encourage greater participation, and support teachers in delivering effective instruction.

The impact of our support is seen daily at The Sri Narayani Vidyalaya Grade School, a kindergarten to Grade 12 school. The school delivers a well-rounded education by combining traditional academic subjects with extracurricular activities such as fine arts, yoga, sports, dance, and community service opportunities. Through our donated educational resources programs, students from under-served communities gain access to enriched learning experiences that go beyond traditional academics, significantly broadening their opportunities for the future.

Educational Resource Materials For Medical Colleges and Institutes

Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally Charity partners with Indian Medical Colleges and Medical Institutes to help boost post-secondary education opportunities for men and women coming from underprivileged communities in southern India.

One of the Medical Colleges we support is called The Sri Narayani College of Nursing in Sekanoor, Tamil Nadu. We have collaborated in various ways since 2006 with this Nursing College to improve the educational outcomes of women from under-served rural populations.

Sri Narayani College of Nursing provides an exceptionally good quality educational experience for young women and offers many degree courses. Sri Narayani College of Nursing was established and started a two year Basic B.Sc(N) certification on November 13th 2006. Diplomas in General Nursing & Midwifery (DGNM) became available in 2008 after three and a half years of study. A two year Master degrees in Nursing [M.Sc(N)] and Post Basic B.Sc(N) [P.B.B.Sc(N)] became available in 2012.

Sri Narayani College of Nursing is affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi, approved by the Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council, and recognized by Directorate of Medical Education state board for their 3 year Diploma in Nursing.

We collaborate with this Nursing College to improve the educational outcomes of students coming from under-served populations by donating scholarships, reference books, magazines, IT software and hardware, laboratory equipment as well as miscellaneous educational aids.

By supporting both the college and the students from under-represented populations, Canadians Sharing Charity is not only advancing health care in rural communities, it also improving
the quality of living for graduates and their communities.  This support represents an important link to raise new opportunities for girls and young women in the rural environments we work through.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR INDIAN GIRLS – DOUBLE YOUR DONATION!*

Improving educational outcomes in India for girls and young women at the elementary and secondary levels.

At Canadians Sharing Locally and Globally Charity, we know that a truly transformative educational program goes beyond the classroom. Girls who receive a higher education are empowered to shape their own futures, contribute financially to their families, make healthier choices that benefit both their households and their wider communities and become leaders in their communities, working as professionals including nursing, teaching or running their own small businesses.

At the national level, educated girls drive a country’s economic growth, promote gender equality and help create a fairer society. Canadians Sharing Locally Charity offers scholarships to assist girls in completing their elementary and secondary education. Donations designated for full and partial scholarships play a critical role in eliminating substantial financial barriers and reducing the high dropout rates experienced by girls in rural communities in India.

In rural India, the need for educational scholarships for girls is acute. At our schools, about one in every twenty girls needs financial support to go to school, most often due to sudden changes in their family’s economic situation.

Receiving a scholarship can be the difference between going on to the next grade or dropping out of school prematurely. Girls who are facing the most severe financial barriers to pursing an education are prioritized for our scholarships. Each term, numerous requests for financial assistance are received, often accompanied by moving stories—children who have lost a parent, families struggling with illness, or households surviving on meager daily wages—highlighting the urgent need for support.

By providing targeted financial aid, we strive to ensure these girls can continue their education and build a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities.
